Advantage Feeders have significantly improved the way I manage my breeding herd, particularly during corn grazing in the winter months. The precise control offered by their 3-way restriction system allows me to limit daily intake accurately, while ensuring feed is readily available. We are using hulless oats as a supplement and have found the feeder to perform reliably with minimal maintenance. In addition to aiding my breeding herd, I have also utilized Advantage Feeders for finishing a smaller group of cattle in the yard. This application has been extremely helpful in reducing the time spent on daily chores. Advantage Feeders are built solidly, particularly the feed control mechanism, which is both precise and straightforward. Adjusting the settings is simple, allowing me to fine-tune the feeding rations. The innovative feed control system has streamlined our feeding process, reduced labor, and enhanced animal health.
This is the second year we have been using Advantage Feeders. The 200HD model works excellent for show steers. We have 10 steers in a pen with 2 feeders. We also have two of the 5300HD Advantage Feeders, which we have used to background our feeder cattle. We moved cattle out 90 days earlier by using the Advantage Feeders as opposed to feeding grain twice a day. They were also roughly 100 pounds heavier. When researching them, I found they were very reasonable in price for what you were getting.
My original reason for buying Advantage Feeders was to achieve better corn stalk cleanup in our winter grazed fields. We quickly found more year-round benefits for our cow-calf and backgrounding operation. I now use them as creep for calves, weaning, breeding, extending or dealing with seasonal pasture gaps, for all classes of cattle. Regarding corn stalk cleanup, the cost of grain and delivery matches our corn cost. The payback on Advantage Feeders is real fast, and I watch my cattle do and perform how I want them to.
Advantage Feeders have made a dramatic impact in our farm as to how we feed our ewes, rams, and lambs. Before purchasing the Advantage Feeders, we just had a ‘all-you-can-eat’ system with no control in consumption. With Advantage Feeders I can comfortably control grain intake without worrying about overeating and bloating, which gives me more time to get on with my other farm chores. It’s also handy and accessible to fill and transport the feeder. Choosing Advantage Feeders was definitely a good choice as I have close to 400 ewes on the farm and a TMR is not always an option at certain times of the year.
Here at Liberty Farms and 4-J Farms we have had the pleasure of purchasing two of the 1200HD Advantage Feeders. We use these feeders to feed around 120 head of registered and commercial Boer goats. We have found that the smaller goats, who would typically get pushed out of the way when bucket fed, actually have a chance to eat at the feeder. This allows the smaller goats to gain more weight and grow to their full potential. Every goat gets an equal amount of time at the feeder without being pushed around by the more dominant goats. We usually fill the feeder once every few weeks, saving us a lot of time every day since we do not have to feed the goats by hand. We could not be happier with these feeders or with the customer service that we have received.
I got this feeder in October right before kidding season. My does have kept their weight on, produced plenty of milk for their kids, and the kids even figured it out. It saves me a lot of time and labor hand feeding every day. We have saved a lot of time, money, and feed by using this feeder. I love my little Advantage Feeder so much that I am planning on getting another one in the future.
Graham Farms purchased an Advantage Feeders 200HD and 1800HD with Mineral Attachment in December 2018, and we are loving them. The goats are keeping excellent body condition, and I can control how much they eat each day. In our 1800, we use 2 different mixes, a pellet and a whole grain mix, both flow very well. The convenience and advantage of not having to measure feed and haul it to the goats every day has been amazing. We have much more time to spend watching and observing the herd doing other farm chores. It’s much easier to find someone to watch our stock when we are away and gives me peace of mind knowing they are fed while we are gone.
Our new Advantage Feeders have been a great addition to our farm. Since it is a ‘lick feeder’ and depends on saliva production, all goats of the same age have basically the same ability to feed, so intake is limited regardless of dominance or age. The bottom line is, the bossy goats get just enough grain before their tongue dries out and they leave the feeder to the more timid goats. The end result is a more uniform feed ration. The more aggressive goats are not over-conditioned and the more timid goats are not under-conditioned. It is a well-built and well-engineered product that works as advertised.
One of the biggest advantages to the feeders was that I don’t have to add salt to my feed and the feeder offers balanced nutrition to each calf that enters the feeder. It is so much easier than any other feeding system. They are built really solid with a solid lid that will withstand weather and abuse. I don’t have to hand feed anymore and the assurance of knowing that the cattle are getting the nutrition they need saves my back. Also, the feeder tray cleans up - there is no waste. The cows come and eat some and then come back.
I wouldn’t change a thing! When constructing these feeders, they thought of everything from the stainless-steel bolts to the construction of the creep panels. There is even a cleaning tool attached! No one else has a product like this on the market. I’m amazed at the overall quality of this feeder, and the successful results are proven by my cattle.
Okay folks, I am going to say I was a skeptic! I secretly didn’t think it would work. I filled individual buckets with feed as a snack, and guess what? They didn’t want the feed! I publicly admit it - the feeder is the real deal! No more fighting, no more work separating, no more individual buckets. Love my goats!
Durability: Advantage Feeders are made from galvanized steel with stainless steel troughs and are weather tight. During Hurricane Harvey, other feeders failed, but Advantage Feeders kept the feed dry inside. Versatility: It works as a Creep Feeder for calves just as well as supplementing bred cows in a drought. It works with all feed types, from whole corn to meal feed with cottonseed and DDGS. Less aggression at the feeder: Calves don’t fight at the feeder and don’t fall off when weaning because they’ve learned to use it. No limiter needed: Advantage Feeders limit feed intake without the use of a caustic limiter, saving wear on feeders and equipment.
I like the flexibility of the Advantage Feeder. We use it to supplement first-calf heifers and control creep feed calves. Using an Advantage Feeder, we can control feed intake while using less expensive dry feed ingredients. The feeder can be easily adjusted to change feed intake needs through different stages of production, gestation, calving, and post-calving. Checking heifers during calving is easier because they are not so worried about their next meal. The mothers are in good condition to breed back, and the calves can be early-weaned and fit in with the calves from the mature cow herd.
Advantage Feeders were the tool we had been looking for! We were considering a TMR process for our bull and heifer development, but the TMR option required an expensive equipment investment and a lot of daily labor. We started with the Advantage Feeders on the bulls. Utilizing the restrictive mode of the feeders, we could dial the bulls in at the desired level of feed intake through the development period without any expensive or undesirable intake limiters. The bulls looked great, and even some of our customers and other breeders asked what we were doing differently. As the feeders did all the feeding work, we started utilizing the system in our breeding program. This allowed us to give timely supplements at a rate down to 2 lbs per head daily. After seeing how we can regulate consumption, the next use of the feeders will be creep feeding.
